The Curling Stones
"...Proper care will lead
to longer life, and more
curling enjoyment for
club members..."
|
The game of curling depends on good ice action, and good movement of the
rocks. The stones themselves play a large role in determining the quality of action on the ice.
Concerns about the ice are often really concerns about the rocks.
The Brown University site has a section devoted to the
Curling Stone.
Proper care will lead to longer life, and more curling enjoyment for club members:
- Keep your ice as clean as possible. A tiny grain of stone dragged along the ice under a
curling rock will damage the running surface.
- Keep the stones on the ice at all times to maintain a constant temperature. Remove them only
when doing major ice maintenance or when the compresser is down.
- Store them in a dry place in the summer, tipped upside down with their handles resting on
carpet. This will prevent scuffing. The rocks are very valuable, so store them near an emergency
exit, if possible, in case of fire.
Thanks for dropping by and I look forward to hearing from you!
