Before Ice: The Start of the Season
"...Many sheets of partially
installed curling ice have
been lost and extra work
incurred in salvaging work done
due to refrigeration failure."
|
The preparation of curling ice for the start of a new season can be a
frustrating, time consuming, and impatient job, especially for the first-timer.
Sand base
- Make sure all pipes are level, straight, and connected properly to their chairs.
- Check clamps and U joints for brine leaks and repair, replace any sand contaminated by brine.
- Pipes must have uniform spacings between them to prevent uneven ice temperature (This
creates runs in the ice).
- Make sure the sand is level across all the pipes, an approximate 1/4" of pipe should be
showing from a downward view.
Concrete Base
- Inspect for cracks and any damage to concrete during summer use.
- Inspect U joints and their clamps if accessable
- Sweep and wash concrete if required with a vinegar and water solution, 1 part vinegar and
4 parts water.
Supply and Return Headers
- Check for leaks, secure connectors, clamps, and stability of header supports
Plant Inspection
- Make sure your plant has been inspected, serviced and started up by a trained refrigeration
technician.
- Inspect everything from compressor valves to your belts.
- Many sheets of partially installed curling ice have been lost and extra work incurred in
salvaging work done due to refrigeration failure. Your plant will work the hardest during the
installation of your ice.
Thanks for dropping by and I look forward to hearing from you!
